RAPTIVA Patient Stories

Diagnosed at age 20, at his worst, Jim was 80% covered with psoriasis. It prevented him from doing many of the things he loved, because he didn't want to show his skin. And it certainly narrowed his wardrobe. His attempts to stay covered included playing basketball in sweatshirts and sweatpants and walking the beach in turtlenecks.

Jim's wife, Anne Marie, was worried, "He hadn't tried anything new for his psoriasis in a while because he'd almost given up." Jim explains, "I gave up on treatment. I just didn't care any more. Because I didn't think there was anything out there."

Now Jim's wife can barely contain his closet. "I've got more shorts in my drawer and T-shirts in my closet." The reason for this? In part, these changes came from the clearer skin Jim has experienced with RAPTIVA. He didn't go from pants to shorts immediately, but Jim was patient.

"In the sequence of events with RAPTIVA, I received my drugs in the mail the second week in October. And October 19th was the first injection that I took, and it's a weekly injection. During the month of October, I really didn't see a whole heck of a lot. And then, obviously, as the weeks went by and the weekly injections occurred, around mid-November, I started to notice the redness around the plaque disappearing. And by Thanksgiving and the holidays, about 50% of the plaque had actually started to disappear. Then, probably by February, into March, 95% of the plaque was gone completely."

RAPTIVA has helped Jim reclaim the love he had of the outdoors before psoriasis prevented him from showing his skin. And even after just 9 months, Jim is planning on sticking with it. "I intend to stay on it the rest of my life. There is no doubt in my mind about it, as long as this drug is available to me, I'll stay on it. This is the only thing that I've found in ... well, about 43 years that actually works for me. Nothing else has ever worked before for me. This is fantastic."
